Adele Faber
Adele Faber is an internationally acclaimed American author and expert on parent-child communication. She is best known for co-authoring the groundbreaking 1980 parenting classic, How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk, which has sold millions of copies worldwide and revolutionized how parents communicate with their children.
Faber graduated from Queens College with a degree in theater and drama, and later earned a master’s degree in education from New York University. She taught in the New York City high school system before studying under the late child psychologist Dr. Haim Ginott. Alongside her writing partner, Elaine Mazlish, Faber synthesized Ginott’s philosophies into practical, empathetic, and accessible strategies for everyday parents.
For decades, Faber’s work has championed an approach based on mutual respect, active listening, and acknowledging a child’s feelings. Her teachings emphasize cooperation over punishment, helping families build healthier dynamics. Alongside Mazlish, Faber has penned several other highly influential bestsellers in the child development sphere, including Siblings Without Rivalry: How to Help Your Children Live Together So You Can Live Too and How to Talk So Teens Will Listen and Listen So Teens Will Talk.
