Angela Duckworth
Angela Duckworth is an American psychologist, author, and professor at the University of Pennsylvania best known for her pioneering research on ‘grit’—the combination of passion and perseverance necessary for long-term achievement. Born in New York City, Duckworth earned her B.A. from Harvard University, an MSc from Oxford University, and her Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.
Before entering academia, Duckworth taught math and science in public schools, where she observed that natural talent alone did not determine student success; rather, psychological resilience and sustained drive were critical. This realization inspired her academic research, leading to a MacArthur Fellowship (‘Genius Grant’) in 2013.
In 2016, she published her runaway bestseller, Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, which transformed modern educational and corporate approaches to talent development. Duckworth is also the co-founder of Character Lab, a nonprofit advancing scientific insights into child development.
