Bernhard Schlink

Dr. Bernhard Schlink is a prominent German author, jurist, and law professor. Before dedicating himself full-time to literature, he served as a constitutional court judge in North Rhine-Westphalia and taught public law and legal philosophy at Humboldt University of Berlin.

He achieved worldwide literary fame with his bestselling 1995 novel The Reader (Der Vorleser), which became the first German book to reach #1 on the New York Times bestseller list and was adapted into an Academy Award-winning film. His subsequent works, including Flights of Love, Olga, and the Selb detective trilogy, explore guilt, memory, and post-WWII German reconciliation.
