H.P. Lovecraft

Howard Phillips Lovecraft, known as H.P. Lovecraft (1890–1937), was an American writer of weird fiction and horror, most renowned for his creation of what became known as the Cthulhu Mythos. Although largely unknown and published only in pulp magazines before he died in poverty, he is now regarded as one of the most significant 20th-century authors in his genre.

Lovecraft’s writing, particularly the so-called «cosmic horror» subgenre, emphasizes the insignificance of humanity within the universe and often features inconceivable and ancient otherworldly entities. His most famous works include «The Call of Cthulhu,» «At the Mountains of Madness,» and «The Shadow over Innsmouth.» Lovecraft’s style is characterized by dense description, antiquated language, and an atmosphere soaked in dread and the uncanny. His influence extends beyond literature into pop culture, games, and film, making him a cult figure in the horror community.
