Henning Mankell

Henning Mankell (1948–2015) was a legendary Swedish author, dramatist, and theatre director best known for pioneering the modern Nordic noir crime fiction genre. Dividing his time between Sweden and Mozambique, he was also an active political writer and humanitarian.

He is universally renowned as the creator of the iconic detective Kurt Wallander, featured in bestselling novels such as Faceless Killers, The Dogs of Riga, and The White Lioness.

Mankell’s gripping police procedurals used crime fiction to examine deep social injustices and moral decay. His literary legacy continues to influence global crime writing.
